Yeehawd: Forbidden fruit

As the iphone 5 conquers the hearts and minds of the land of the midnight sun, it might be due a little reality check. Of couse, it also gives me a good reason to share the first of many pictures from the upcoming game Yeehawd!

So let´s take a look at this most Luciferian of fruits, the apple from the tree of knowledge.
It´s interesting to consider that the fruit in question is probably not an apple at all. The part of genesis dealing with the forbidden fruit says nothing about the specifics, but there are several theories around.

Genesis 2:16-17
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: "of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat; but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
Now, the idea that the fruit is an apple is likely due to a mistranslation or a pun. Latin for evil: mălum is very simliar to their word for apple: mālum. The area which the historical "garden of eve" (the area upon the legend is based) indicates that it´s probably a fig. Something that seems to be backed by several rabbis, and something that has been shown in iconography. Most spectacularly in the roof of the  sistine chapel.

Another theory is based on the idea that the historical region was another place in the fertile crescent, which makes the pomegranate a possible suspect. It also ties into greek mythology, with the story of Persephone.

Oh well, forbidden fruit or not, considering the punishness of the Apple I think we´ll stick with it. How else could we get away with such a wonderful picture as the one above?
